Since You Scrolled…
Alex grew up in the Inland Empire, California with roots in dance, singing, and musical theater. She trained in a multitude of styles like ballet, tap, modern, and Fosse. She has a background in classical and legit vocal training along with choral experience, having competed in statewide competitions with the MTAC. She performed in a multitude of community theater productions in the cities of Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana mainly as a dancer and ensemble member. Her favorite community theater productions are the dance dramas put up by Valverde Stage Productions Inc. where they take classic folk tales and turn them into modern ballets mixing dance styles and music genres to tell the stories.
Alex got a BFA in Drama at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in August 2021, where she finally got formal acting training. She trained at Atlantic Acting School, Experimental Theater Wing, and Stonestreet Studios at her time there. Along with acting, Alex discovered her talents as a special effects makeup artist, a writer, a devisor, and even a director while at Tisch. Her favorite credit is when she got to direct and star in The Hungry Woman: A Mexican Medea which interrogates the oppressive contradictions of the Mexican American identity through the Greek tragedy of Medea and the Mexican folk tale of La Llorona. Alex also got to star in a short film she wrote “Real Eyes Realize :(“ centering a girl with a staring problem who has a crush on her classmate along with other short films. She also became a company member of Affirmation Theatre Company doing several productions with them whether it be acting or supporting in the production and management of the company.
As an artist, Alex aims to put out work that centers BIPOC that does not only resort to displaying racial trauma for the white gaze. Whether she’s writing, participating in acting or even doing makeup for a project, she loves to see several BIPOC narratives that are fully embodied with joy, grief, fun, and the full range of what it means to exist in the world—no gimmicks. Along with her ties to Affirmation Theatre Company, she is also proud to be a part of Mi Voz Media, a media platform that centers artists who are BIPOC and of marginalized genders.
